Nigerian Army arrested 24 persons for snatching ballot boxes

The Nigerian Army said it arrested no fewer than 24 suspects in connection with electoral offences during the Saturday Governorship and House Assembly elections in Imo, Abia and Cross River States. Giving a breakdown of the suspects in a statement on Tuesday, Col. Sagir Musa, the army spokesman said 15 suspects were arrested in Abia State. The long arm of the law has caught up with Kano State Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Sule, and the Chairman, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Lamin Sani, after they were both arrested for attempting to snatch election result sheets. The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Sokoto State, Sadiq Musa, has defended the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the governorship election in the state inconclusive.
