Saturday, January 26, 2019, Hon. Fatai Oluwa, an incumbent member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming March 2 elections for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency II stole the show as teams squared out to play for Mr. Babajide Sanwo Olu.
The tournament held at the synthetic pitch of Araromi Primary School, Ajegunle attracted 16 teams drawn from Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA and Ifelodun LCDA. The competition was the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Street Soccer Challenge, played across 5 zones in Lagos State.
Upon his arrival, Hon. Oluwa had fans and players chanting his name as his entrance sparked off funfair. The uniqueness that greeted his stay at the venue despite the scorching sun left many spellbound as they never imagined an honourable would be that graceful to attend an event of that magnitude.
His kick-off was well applauded by the massive crowd that thronged the arena to witness the competition and catch a glimpse of the honourable gentlemen, who has given sports a face-lift in this clime.
“I feel very much excited because the participation of my boys in this competition is something we started upon my assumption in office in 2015,” he began.
“I have been organizing soccer competitions since December 15, 2015 and that is just a pointer to the fact that we have the youths at heart,” he posited.
His team, Fatai Oluwa FC lost to the eventual winners, Clever Stars fc and will go on to represent Ajeromi-Ifelodun at the finals billed for Campos mini stadium, first week of February, 2019.
Not deterred by the non-qualification of his team for the sole ticket, Hon. Fatai Oluwa has promised to also take care of the team that would be representing his Constituency at the finals.
It would be recalled that Clever Stars defeated Olive Stars 3:1 on penalties after a pulsating game that ended 1 all apiece.
