Sequel to the hues and cries that greeted the appointment of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s cabinet with no name from Ajeromi-Ifelodun making the list, the governor moved a step further to appoint former Lagos State House of Assembly member, Hon. Abdoubaq Ladi Balogun as the new MD/CEO, Lagos State Ferry Services.
The news that started trickling in few hours ago had mixed reactions from the people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun who felt the governor has still not done enough to carry the people of Ajegunle along in his government.
While some felt the governor only wanted to compensate the local government by reappointing one Ajegunle breed with another, others felt Commissionership would have quenched the long thirst for acceptability of the local government by the State.
It might interest you to know that Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul (KAP) was the last man to get a Lagos State Cabinet appointment during the first tenure of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and ironically, he is still the same person that would be replaced by the new appointee for the position of MD/CEO, LAG Ferry after serving five years as the LAG Ferry boss.
Speaking with Community Watch Plus, Hon. Ladi Balogun whose abode was filled with a mammoth crowd that came to congratulate him on the new appointment gave God the glory for this achievement.
“I give everything to the glory of God,” he began.
When asked about his predecessor, he quipped, “I don’t know who I am replacing at the moment as I have not gone there yet. It is too early for me; I need to go to the place first.”
On if the prayers and clamour for the people to get a State appointment has been met, he responded: “I don’t think so; we are still expecting more to be done by the State government for the people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun,” he submitted.
As it is now, it seems the people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun are back on the Chess board as some of the youths still feel they have been short-changed.
Speaking anonymously, two of the youths we spoke to exclaimed that they cannot be cajoled into accepting this appointment as one that is needed to quench their clamour for an SA or commissioner.
“What the governor just did is replacing someone in office with another one from the same area. He has still not given us what we want.”
“KAP has completed his tenure and he has served meritoriously. During his tenure, the Lagos State Ferry Service was revitalized and I hope Hon. Ladi will build upon what he has achieved.
However, I must reiterate that the governor has still not giving us what we want because for the very first time, we voted as a community for him to emerge as governor,” the other said.
It would be recalled that Hon. Ladi Balogun was a one-time Lagos State House of Assembly member and also contested for the last primaries for same seat.
